I am very thankful for JAVA (the programming language, not the coffee). I am thankful for JAVA for many reasons. Java is very versatile, it runs in many environments, it is free to use, and there are many free editors you can use to create java programs. JAVA is a pretty cool language.
My oldest son Matthew (11 years old) is learning Java at the moment and he already has some experience with HTML, so it wouldn't surprise me if he starts developing games for our
dinosaur site.
Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if our 6 year old Adam writes some games for the site as well. Adam is SOOOO interested in computers and seems to be learning JAVA programming along with Matthew. He sits/stands next to Matthew and watches him program. In fact, the other day while I was watching Matthew go through his JAVA lesson Adam said,
"No, that's wrong it should ne drawRectangle, not fillRectangle" or something along those lines.
And Adam was right!
Anyway, they both seem to enjoy learning Java and while I can't imagine Adam being a programmer at age 6, it could happen (apparently it is happening). For that matter it's hard to believe Matthew is old enough to learn programming already.
Lastly, the reason I am thankful for JAVA is that currently it pays the bills in my house, as I am a JAVA developer for a fairly big computer company.
Anyway, I am very thankful for JAVA - the programming language for kids of all ages!
